How to make a New Dial-Up Connection in Windows 98

The following instructions are for the Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard delivered with Windows 98. If you have a different version of the Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard, you may still use these instructions for guidance.

It is highly recommended that you delete any AOL adapters that are located in your network properties before you set up your connection.

From the desktop, Click your "Start" button (often in the lower left corner of the screen) and single-click with the left mouse button. The "Start" menu will appear.
Click Programs
Click "Internet Explorer"
Click "Connection Wizard". The Internet Connection Wizard will start.

Choose the middle option. Click Next

Choose the top option. Click Next

Choose connect using my phone line. Click Next

Type the 7 digit local access number into the box labled Telephone number. Uncheck the Dial using the area code and country code box. Click Next

Type your username (username@tlcis.net) and password. Click Next

Choose the 'No' option on the Advanced Settings screen. Click Next

Type TLCIS Online as your connection name. Click Next

Choose the yes option if you want to setup your email account at this time. (recommended). Click Next

If you do not choose to set up your email account at this time, click the No radio button, click next and choose no for the option on the next 2 screens. You will see the finished screen that is at the bottom of this tutorial.

Type in the name you want others to see when they receive mail from you. ie. John Smith or Smith Family or Bill & Donna Smith Click Next

Type your email address in the box provided. Click Next

Your incoming mail server is a POP3. Type mail.tlcis.net in the Incoming and outgoing server boxes. Click Next

Check the radio button: 'Log on using POP account name. Type your account name (entire email address) and password into the boxes provided. Click Next

Choose a name to identify this email account. The reason for this is that you may have multiple email accounts. Click Next

Choose the No option Click Next

Choose the No option Click Next

Click Finish
